Choosing the correct string's for your Guitar will have a positive impact on your Guitar’s tone, playability and durability. If you have been playing for a while now, you will know which string's are right for you. If you are a complete beginner, here is quick guide to get you started.

String Types and Restringing.

Classical

On a Classical Guitar, as shown in the above photograph, there are two types of string's. The three bass string's (E, A and D in standard tuning) are wound in Bronze. The 3 lighter string's, (G, B and Higher E) are made of clear Nylon.

Acoustic

Acoustic Guitar string's are different to Classical Guitar's, they are not made with Nylon. The 4 bass string's E, A, D and G are Nickel plated Steel wires that are wound in Bronze. The higher string's B and E are not wound in Bronze.

Electric

Electric Guitar string's are slightly different than Acoustic string's. These are wound in Nickel rather than Bronze. String's E, A, D (the bass string's) are wound in Nickel. String's G, B and Higher E are Nickel plated Steel with no winding.

Classical Guitar

In this video you will learn how to restring a Classical Guitar. This can be tricky for a beginner, as you will see in this video, strings need to be tied in a specific way around the bridge and the Machine Heads to keep tension for optimal tuning.

Acoustic Guitar

In this video you will learn how to restring an Acoustic Guitar. This is easy, as you will see in this video, your strings are fed inside of the bridge and locked in by the pegs. Watch carefully how to tie your strings at the top for optimal tuning.

Electric Guitar

In this video you will learn how to restring an Electric Guitar. This can be difficult for a beginner, as some Guitars feed the strings through the back of the Guitar and some will fit through the bridge. They all follow the same procedure though.

The fretboard is an important component on most stringed instruments. It is a thin, long strip of wood, that is laminated to the front of the neck of a stringed instrument. The string's run over the fingerboard, between the nut and the Bridge.
